A giant tombstone
That date probably means nothing to you. It meant nothing to me too. Not until I went to Pearl Harbor and learned about the sneak attack of the Japanese military on Hawaii. I watched a really moving documentary about the raid on Pearl Harbor at the USS Arizona memorial site. They sank almost all of the battle ships of the US Navy. Most damaged was USS Arizona. The memorial is built on top of the sunk battleship. It was eerie knowing that we were standing on top of the tombs of about 1175 soldiers who went down with the ship they were serving. And its ironic that more than 50 years later, a Filipina is studying in the US sponsored by a Japanese company in order to help the Philippines. But its the kind of irony that we all need. The kind of irony that brings peace.
