Yesterday, we went to visit the only palace on American soil. Iolani Palace on King St. in downtown Honolulu. It used to be the seat of government during the reign of the Hawaiian royalty. Meron pala mga royalty ang mga Hawaiians. It's not as grand as palaces go but its really pretty. Too bad, we couldn't take any pictures inside. Plus we had to wear little booties on our shoes in order to protect the douglas fir floors from anymore dents.

It was really interesting hearing about the lives of the Hawaiian royalty from the docent on duty. Although it struck me as odd that the Kamehameha's (the names of ruling kings-I to III) lives were fashioned after British royalty. Parang di bagay that they should be wearing Victorian gowns (lined with ermine at that) in the middle of tropical Hawaii. It must have been torture.
